Oct 30, 2014, Thursday Lumbini – Pokhara

Narayani River
Nepal has raised bumpy roads to a new art form.  Another long bumpy ride from Lumbini to Pokhara.  However, the scenery is very beautiful and the sights quite varied.

A long the way we took a long detour up a mountain to the village of Bandipur.  It is supposedly very authentic and relatively untouched by modernization.  We didn’t make it to the “old village” (one main reason to go is for the views, but it was very hazy/smoggy) but the newer section of the village is quite focused on tourists with many guest houses and cafés and restaurants.  We had lunch there and walked around a bit…then hit the bumpy roads again.

Our hotel in Pokhara, The Fishtail Lodge, was pretty awesome.  To get there you board a ferry/raft and the operator pulls the raft across about 50 yards of water to the hotel.  The lodge obviously caters to western travelers and is very comfortable.  The food was excellent and the views of Lake Pewa were superb.

There is an art to coiling the rope so it does not tangle:
